We are Sisu Eatery and Bar on the Picton waterfront, and we are looking for our next long term permanent Front of house Duty Manager. We have a laid-back modern concept with less than 30 seats inside (+outdoor seating). We do small sharing plates with seasonal and fresh focus, and small producer wines, craft beer and gins. We have around 30 wines open by glass.
Honest approach and attentive service, without the fluff. We focus on delivering a great experience to all customers, but also our team. This is a opportunity to join a small happy supportive team, where we all help each other out. As we are a small owner operated eatery there's space for you to grow and develop your hospitality skills. If you have passion for wine, great attitude and ability to learn quickly, we want to hear from you! Managing experience is a bonus, but this position is great for someone wanting to step up to leadership. We can upskill the right candidate and help with Duty managers license if you don't have one already.
We are open for lunch and dinner 6 days a week so availability to work evenings and weekends is essential and occasionally working public holidays. Picton is seasonal so hours will fluctuate, more work in the summer.
What we need from you:
  • Experience in quality restaurant hospitality, with keen interest in Wine.
  • Great attitude and willingness to learn is a must.
  • Outgoing personality. We take plenty of time to chat with customers and make them feel comfortable.
  • Be proactive and able to prioritize between tasks and quick on your feet.
  • Consistency and attention to detail.
  • Be a great respectful polite team member!
  • You'll need to be willing to do dishes and cleaning when needed.
  • You must have excellent conversational English language skills.
  • You need to be physically fit enough to lift wine boxes and stand for long periods of time.
  • You'll need to able to follow instructions and be happy to comply with our house rules and procedures.
  • You’ll need to have a current right to work in New Zealand. (Working holiday visa is enough to start with, we can potentially investigate AEWV for the right candidate.)
  • We focus on beer and wine, so no barista skills needed!
What we offer:
  • $27 + /h depending on your experience.
  • Permanent full-time contract. Guaranteed 35 hours a week
  • Rostered shifts over 5 working days a week.
  • We support individual goals and strengths. Full training is provided to ensure you can still have fun while working hospitality job.
  • Assisting getting a Duty managers license if you don't have one yet.
